The Human Mind You may remember learning about growth rings in trees as a child and like me, being fascinated at just how much information about the tree was held inside it.
The human mind is similar, in that our history is permanently recorded inside it, nothing is forgotten by our subconscious mind.
If you can imagine your earliest childhood memory as being equivalent to the tree's centre ring and the outer ring as being the memories you're recording today, you can see how all of those events will have shaped both your thinking, and your life, over time.
Some of that recorded information will be invaluable to you - Some of it may not.
Thankfully, we don't have to be cut in half to discover our past, but those memories and life experiences, stored away inside your mind, make you the person you are today. Your mind is like an organic super computer and just like with your PC at home, we need to update programs from time to time, maybe installing new and even better ones for the future. Unlike that computer at home, our organic computer has the fastest processor and an unlimited memory.
Sometimes an early childhood memory can lead to a debilitating phobia, that could stop a person from leaving their house, or from riding on an escalator. Some early emotional trauma, or maybe abuse of some kind - mental, physical or sexual, could easily cause someone to develop an eating disorder, or some other addiction, or obsession, much later in life.
Hypnotherapy is often the last choice when people are looking to resolve their health issues. They will start by going to see their doctor, which is always the best place to start by the way, then move on to various therapists, councillors, or maybe their priest, often turning to hypnotherapy only in desperation.
Well, I see it as part of my job to spread the word about hypnosis, helping people to discover other ways of resolving their problems. As a rule of thumb, anything that can be made worse by stress can be made better with the aid of hypnosis.
But it's not just about what may be making you feel unwell, it's also about having the ability to make changes for the future. Many people have limiting beliefs about what they can be, or where they can be.... or simply, what they deserve to have in their life.
Many of these beliefs are installed in us at an early age and they often prevent us from getting where we want to be. For example, if someone was repeatedly told as a child that they're stupid, or clumsy, they could easily have accepted that as a belief.
Our subconscious mind will work hard to make us into the person that it perceives us to be, that's its job, but that perception of self may have been damaged by our life experience. A Hypnotherapy session with me will help to identify any of the problems from the past that may be holding you back. You could also create some positive new goals for the future. Once installed at a subconscious level, these new strategies become automatic.
